|
Westover Vineyards produces the largest variety of ports in the United States, bottling from 20 or 30 varieties at a time. The dessert wines range from sweet to rich and heavy—something for every palate. Owner William Westover Smyth bought the land in 1986, and planted a vineyard to sell grapes to local wineries. Within several years he decided to keep some of the grapes and make his own specialty wines. The tasting room was open to the public by 1994. The winery prides itself on creating only “wines we want to drink”, not what’s trendy. Available for weddings and other events. A spa is also onsite.
Wines: Merlot, Petite Sirah, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Malbec, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Viognier, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir Rosé, blends, sparkling wines, and Ports, including white, red, and tawny ports.
Tasting Room: Open Saturday and Sunday, 12-5 p.m., or by appointment.
The rustic tasting room is located in picturesque Palomares Canyon. Guests may enjoy a game of pool, or Ping Pong on the patio, and picnicking is encouraged. Call ahead for large groups, private tours, or private tastings. |
