In 1977, the Chouinard Family fell in love with the site of the historic Cook Ranch, a one-time cattle and sheep ranch, and cherry orchard, in Palomares Canyon. The family planted the first grapes 25 years ago; the winery opened to the public in 1983. Son Damian Chouinard studied Enology and Viticulture at California State University Fresno, and became the winery’s award-winning winemaker in 1985. The winery is available for weddings and parties.
Wines: Zinfandel, Malbec, Viognier, Rosé, Gewürztraminer, Chenin Blanc, Riesling, Port, Petit Sirah, blends, and sparkling wines.
Tasting Room: Saturday and Sunday, 12-5 p.m., and by appointment.
The tasting room is in an eclectic, remodeled 85-year-old barn. Guests may enjoy tasting wine inside, or picnicking under 100-year-old oaks. The winery has live music concerts throughout the summer, and special events during the year. |
